Sustainability

In September 2015, at the UN Summit in New York, heads of state and government adopted the “Agenda 2030” with 17 development goals to address the greatest challenges facing humanity. Ending poverty, high-quality education, gender equality, climate change—these and 13 other goals are to be implemented through a new global partnership involving all relevant stakeholders.

Strubl GmbH & Co. KG and its employees are committed to these sustainability goals. We strive to contribute both at work and in our private lives to ensure that these goals can be achieved.

At a time when the world is increasingly characterized by complex challenges, it is essential that companies balance their economic contribution with their social responsibility. With its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs, see https://17ziele.de/), the 2030 Agenda provides clear guidance for implementing this responsibility. The following five goals are particularly relevant to our company and the implementation of our sustainability strategy.

SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages

Our commitment to promoting well-being is directly reflected in our corporate culture. Access to occupational health care and the highest standards of occupational safety form the foundation of a healthy working life at STRUBL. We regularly use a questionnaire to gauge the satisfaction of our employees in order to identify areas for improvement and increase well-being in the workplace. On the product side, our innovative packaging concepts offer comprehensive protection for our customers' products, thereby contributing significantly to a high level of consumer safety. This safety not only creates trust among end users, but also forms the basis for the responsible use of our products.

SDG 7: Access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all

STRUBL contributes to the fulfillment of SDG7 by reducing our energy consumption and sourcing energy responsibly. As a manufacturing company, we have considerable energy requirements. That is precisely why we are aware of our responsibility to avoid the use of fossil fuels. Since 2021, we have been sourcing green electricity and contributing directly to the production of sustainable energy with our photovoltaic systems in Wendelstein since 2021 and in Nabburg since 2022.

SDG 8: Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all As a manufacturer of packaging solutions, we are particularly aware of the environmental impact of plastic packaging. For us, achieving an effective circular economy is not just a project, but an essential commitment. Only through this approach can existing material structures be recycled in a meaningful way—a step that we are resolutely promoting with our recycled packaging. This perspective helps us to offer our employees secure and future-oriented jobs. Through our supplier code, we want to contribute to ensuring humane working conditions along the entire value chain.
SDG 12: Promoting sustainable consumption and production patterns Sustainable production begins with the selection of raw materials. We can optimize our value-added processes through resource-efficient technologies, the use of secondary raw materials, and the promotion of the circular economy. For example, our customers can choose bags made from 100 percent recyclable LPDE, post-consumer and post-industrial recyclates, or paper. We advise and support our customers in the development of modern packaging solutions based on the ECODESIGN guidelines. Our customized production according to customer requirements not only enables us a high degree of flexibility, but also prevents unnecessary production and thus further environmental impact—we only produce what is actually used.
SDG 13: Take action to combat climate change and its impacts A key priority is to actively drive the transformation of the packaging and plastics industry towards a functioning circular economy. Recycling is at the heart of our efforts in line with SDG 13. We focus on pioneering recycling processes, including PIR (post-industrial recycling) and PCR (post-consumer recycling). These processes not only reduce waste but also minimize the need for new resources by reusing valuable materials. In addition, we are exploring alternatives such as the use of paper, which is a sustainable alternative to conventional plastics and thus contributes to a sustainable packaging solution. Furthermore, we consistently implement energy-saving measures. We integrate solar energy into our production to reduce our emissions. These measures go hand in hand with our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and thus making an active contribution to mitigating climate change.
